The Australian duo behind Tome met in 1998 while studying fashion at The University of Technology in Sydney.  The genius of Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin is in the combination between Martin’s design aesthetic, honed during his stints with Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Atelier, J. Mendel, and Derek Lam, and Lobo’s savvy gained during multiple roles as design buyer, stylist, and brand consultant.

Based in New York, Tome has been creating collections that are practical, straightforward, and ever-essential since its founding in 2011. The two designers choose a Muse every season who acts as the influencer and catalyst for their unique take on wardrobe staples such as the white shirt and the trench coat. Previous muses for the collections include Georgia O’Keeffe, Ana Mendieta, Shirin Neshat, and Jackie Nickerson.

Recently, Tome was amongst the finalists at the prestigious CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in 2013 and have since presented collections at every NYFW. Tome is new-era fashion that embodies the golden, age-old ethos: In simplicity, is true elegance.

Inspired by the female art collection Guerilla Girls, TOME’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection flew the feminist flag – but in a playful, upbeat way. The central motif, deployed boldly across feminine-cut dresses, was a bright yellow banana created from custom crystal hotfix transfers and referencing the controversial ‘banana skirt’ worn by French jazz-age entertainer Josephine Baker.

Drawing inspiration from the optical art illusions of Bridget Riley, Tome’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection was awash in harlequin patterning, favoring striking monochrome palettes with Swarovski crystal netting and dainty details.

With inspiration from the likes of artists Mona Hatoum and Barbara Kruger, Tome debuted an Autumn/Winter 2016 collection infused with rich colors and layered, oversized lapels. Swarovski crystal shone from several stylized evil eye’s, and lent a geometric character as detailing on several brawny taupe pieces. Generous silhouettes took form from ruched hems for a chic, masterful collection.

Embodying the ethos that in simplicity, is true elegance, Tome's Spring/Summer 2016 collection featured a subtle palette comprised of warm neutrals and intimate mesh with Swarovski crystal seemingly dusted onto each piece. Cheeky fish prints over sweeping silhouettes complimented the oversized floral lace used throughout the collection.
