Spring/Summer 2015 marks Rodarte’s 15th season as part of the Swarovski Collective. Since 2007, Swarovski has supported Kate and Laura Mulleavy with several exciting fashion projects, including the donation of 250,000 crystals for costumes in the 2010 film Black Swan, and the 2012 opera Don Giovanni in LA. Rodarte also joined forces with Swarovski to create a luxury jewelry collection for Atelier Swarovski in 2008 – the same year they scooped the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear.

SS 2015 FILM BY RODARTE AND ELLE MULIARCHYK

In celebration of 16 seasons of partnership, Swarovski and Rodarte collaborated on a hypnotic short film highlighting the designers' Spring/Summer 2015 collection. The video, which perfectly captures Rodarte's design and aesthetic, was shot by budding director and photographer, Elle Muliarchyk.  It is a breathtaking look into a girl's quiet moments, showcasing the ethereal quality of Rodarte's crystal-adorned designs.

Sequins, feathers, lace, leather, and one of Swarovski's latest innovations -- crystal fine mesh. Each of these elements added a unique dimension and exciting detail to Rodarte's Fall/Winter 2015 collection. The dynamic design duo completed their runway with a Swarovski-studded makeup look created by makeup artist, James Kaliardos and Nars.

SS 2015 COLLECTION

Inspired by Monterey, CA and the ephemeral world of the ocean, Rodarte partnered with runway set designer, Bureau Betak, to create islands of glass dusted with 300 pounds of sea-tone crystals, beautifully mimicking crystalline undercurrents. This aquatic motif was also brought to life with an additional 250,000 crystals, artistically encrusted in Rodarte’s collection through crystal net drips and couture hand-beading.

AW 2014 COLLECTION

Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy were feeling nostalgic this season and looked to their childhood in California for inspiration. Models walked down the runway in Swarovski crystal embroidered silk chiffon dresses, paired with crystal embroidered hosiery. For a cosmic finale, models wore gowns printed with Star Wars characters and bodices embroidered with Swarovski crystals.

SS 2014 COLLECTION

Drawing inspiration from Vegas showgirls and LA girl gangs, Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy channel their hometown of Los Angeles for Spring/Summer 2014, pairing handcuff necklaces made with Swarovski crystal cupchain with beaded crystal leopard bra tops.

AW 2010 COLLECTION

Fall 2010 explores the idea of sleepwalking. The idea of a dream state, or in-between state, guided the development of the collection. Swarovski crystal is used to help illuminate the collection by creating dappled moonlight throughout the show.” – Rodarte

SS 2009 COLLECTION

This season was inspired by terrestrial light formations and outer space. We wanted to explore the concept of glowing dispersed light. The only way to achieve this incandescent effect was to experiment with Swarovski crystal, being that, Swarovski crystal has the ability to reflect and move brilliant
light.” – Rodarte

AW 2008 COLLECTION

Rodarte used knitwear and highly textured gossamer in a light colour palette for their Autumn Winter 2008 collection, which was heavily inspired by Kabuki and Japanese horror films. Swarovski Crystals were woven into delicate knitwear and chiffon pieces to create an otherworldly atmosphere.

SS 2008 COLLECTION

Spring 2008 is a collection that focuses on translucent layering and watercolors. In order to achieve the delicate shading of color, we used Swarovski crystals. The multi dimensional layering of color and texture allowed for us to create color patterns that are as gossamer as the textiles themselves.” – Rodarte
